Hit Couleurs JAZZ

Indifferent to fashions, Fabien Mary pursues the path that has been his since the beginning: that of a jazz that brilliantly revives the Bop and West Coast aesthetics of which he knows and practices all the subtleties.

Reload” was produced with The Vintage Orchestra, a big band in the tradition of the Thad Jones & Mel Lewis Orchestra, led by saxophonist and flutist Dominique Mandin for some twenty years.

For the occasion, and as he did for “Too Short” released in March 2021 on the Jazz & People label, and already produced by Ben Art Records, François Mary has concocted arrangements featuring eight of his own compositions.

Elegantly written, with welcome combinations of timbres, they highlight the different sections, master mass phrasing and a constant concern for swing, ensured by a rhythm section of unfailing solidity; all of this generates an overall sound that leads the different soloists in the orchestra to improvise freely, giving of their best.

The audience at the Sunside, Paris concert, which took place three evenings in a row from January 31 to February 2, 2024, made no mistake.

Line Up:

Dominique Mandin, Olivier Zanot, Thomas Savy, David Sauzay, Jean-François Devèze: saxophones, flutes and clarinet,

Erick Poirier, Julien Écrepont, Fabien Mary, Malo Mazurié: trumpets

Michaël Ballue, Michaël Joussein, Jerry Edwards, Didier Havet: trombones

Florent Gac: piano

Yoni Zelnik: doublebass

Andrea Michelutti: drums

Recorded on March 1 and 2, 2023 at the Conservatoire de Persan auditorium (Val d’Oise – France)
