Fred Sumi, leader, composer and bassist of the EdKub group, has been passionate about Cuban music and rhythms since 1995, visiting Cuba on numerous occasions.

A long maturation and gradual impregnation led, 23 years later, in 2018, to the creation of the group EdKub, which produces a fusion of electro sounds and traditional Cuban music.

Of course, it was the many encounters and friendships with the fabulous musicians of the island of Cuba that led, as if it were a matter of course, to the creation of this original music, recorded in the studios of Havana.

EdKub, (Ed for Fred, and Kub from Cuba!) was born of a love for Cuban grooves, mixed with warm electronic sounds (warmth that electro music can sometimes lack!). Together, they create a unique fusion, offering an amazing and joyful musical experience.

For his new album Color de Rosas, Edkub explores in depth his passion for Cuban and electro fusion. The album features thirteen tracks which, united like the petals of a rose, create a multicolored, fragrant universe that’s not lacking in spice.

All the Colours of Jazz… Or everything we like.

On this new album, the Cuban band features the brothers Yassell and Raysel Sotomayor on vocals, plus Marbis Manzanet, with her deep, intense voice.

Maykel Garcia Gonzalez is on piano and keyboards, straight out of the Cuban piano school and current pianist with the legendary group “Los Van Van”.

Duniesky Barreto is on congas and Eduardo Bringuez Ayarde on trumpet.

All three are former members of the famous Cuban group “Pupy y Los que Son Son”. Roicel Riveron, on drums and timbal, is a former member of the famous Cuban group Manolito y su Trabuco.

A few words about the tracks on this new opus:

Pica Pica is directly inspired by Cuban salsa. The catchy choruses set the pace. Piano, horns, drums, bass and percussion, fused with electro synths, create a modern, upbeat fusion in the colors of tropical summer.

The eponymous Color de Rosas is driven by syncopated drums and percussion. Warm vocals and melancholy melodies convey a philosophical message about everyday life. Irresistible.

Yaya (cf. the eponymous album released in 2022), in this remixed version, remains one of the best tracks on the album. A song full of freshness and spice, in a unique and authentic blend of salsa and electronic music, always with a warm sound. The catchy chorus spices up the song with references to everyday life in Cuba.

An album rich in flavors and colors, to be heard this spring and all summer long, on Couleurs Jazz Radio or on other platforms.
