After Mycélium (2022), pianist and composer Thierry Girault releases Pauvres Sauvages, his new album recorded with the same quartet.

This time, he entrusted the artistic direction and the production of the clips to the Swiss painter, engraver and sculptor Suan Müller. He also invited the young Franco-Cuban singer Samantha Lyard. To compose this album, Thierry Giraultdrew on the memories left to him by the many trips he made to Europe, Russia, Africa and China. Pauvres sauvages is a real and beautiful success.

Thierry Girault is a nature lover, fiercely attached to his freedom. He leads his career as a musician far from Paris, in the mountainous reliefs of Haute-Savoie. This is far from being insignificant, because all of this is found in his music. He offers an open, airy and ethereal jazz, with superb melodies. On some tracks, voices come to nicely support the instrumental parts. And if there is undoubtedly something soothing, warm, and even reassuring in Thierry Girault‘s compositions, it is not mawkish for all that, far from it. To put it simply, it sounds good, and even very good!

We also feel a great complicity between the musicians. They are used to playing together and it is heard, to our great pleasure. Each of them has the opportunity to show us their talent and their instrumental mastery during the album. The double bass player, who is only 23 years old, already has a very beautiful, very accomplished sound. Let’s not forget the young Franco-Cuban singer Samantha Lyard whose deep and serious voice gives all its strength to the feminist song “A Mi Nunca” (“Me, That, Never“).

The recording is of very good quality, well balanced, and highlighting the beautiful musical cohesion of the quartet..
