What could be better than a combination of the best of the Beatles with the sonic talents of two superlative Jazz talents, Sara Longo and Alvise Seggi?
I had no idea and then I saw them perform their new set in secret garden in the heart of Venice (December 14, 2024). Since then their unique arrangements and harmonious partnership has grown and grown.
Alvise Seggi not only accompanies Sara Longo with his amplified violoncello but often takes the lead, so that we can bask in his thrilling virtuosity.
Sara’s vocals range from sweetly soaring to a kind of syncopated stardust. She is particularly good at bringing the audience along with her, much to all of our surprise on occasions. Looping one’s voice live has become a fashionable thing these days but when Sara does it, it just makes you want to hear more and more of ‘that voice’.
In truth, I was never a great fan of the Beatles but the Mystery Tour isn’t just a rearrangement. It’s a whole new reimagining and I’d recommend it to anyone.
Line Up:
Sara Longo: vocals, effects
Alvise Seggi: cello & double bass
An album is planned (at Frémeaux & associés) early March 2025. Upcoming concerts…
Laura Pitchard is Vice President, American and International Women’s Association of Venice.
