Daniel Garcia: The Hero’s Journey

In just a few years, Daniel Garcia has become one of Europe’s most prominent jazz pianists, and he more than lives up to that reputation with his magnificent debut solo album.

A solo album where the splendor of his touch, his lyricism, and his ability to bring to life simple melodies—which, under his fingers, become resplendent and delightful gems of stunning candor and impressive depth—truly shine. But—and I should have used a different term—Daniel Garcia never seeks to impress us, and that is precisely what is impressive. He inhabits the piano as if it were his home—spacious, intimate, luminous, welcoming… without ever resorting to showiness. As a result, the listener feels at home in these melodies that settle into their ears with supreme ease. To achieve this result, Garcia has embraced both the “less is more” philosophy and the multiplication of his own presence by clapping his hands, introducing subtle layers of synth, or singing on certain themes with a childlike joy that can’t help but go straight to our hearts. But beware, Daniel Garcia is by no means a childish musician. Quite the contrary, he has reached such a level of maturity that he can content himself with simply being himself without entering into the “hands-full-of-fingers” competition that characterizes some of his contemporaries on the 88 keys. Daniel Garcia’s crystal-clear, majestic, or adventurous phrasing and his touch—at once subtle and disarmingly sincere—are simply reflections of a rich and endearing personality, one that can capture the attention of all lovers of fine piano playing and simply beautiful music, whether they are newcomers or seasoned enthusiasts. I hate the term “universe”—so overused—when talking     about music: I’m no astrophysicist! But with Daniel Garcia, it takes on its full meaning. However, I will refrain from using it and will simply say, “Welcome to the jubilant and candid World of Daniel Garcia!” Once you’ve stepped inside, you’ll have only one desire: to share it with your loved ones for their greatest benefit.
