Crossing is how the duo of saxophonist Baptiste Poulin and pianist Xavier Belin chose to be called.

Crossing, then, is the meeting of two personalities, one steeped in the music of Martinique, the other with Burgundian roots.

It was after meeting while studying in Paris that the two musicians decided to form this duo, in which their voices display an obvious complicity, evident in the unison passages. The piano is frequently percussive, with a sense of rhythm that provides its partner with a foundation of unshakeable solidity.

The saxophone deploys fluid, elegant phrasing and lyricism to great effect. Depending on the track, they even swap roles, the blower offering a repetitive phrase on which the pianist develops an inspired solo.

Based on their own compositions, the two musicians weave a rich melodic and harmonic tapestry. The result is a light-hearted, delightful musical experience in which improvisations follow one another on a variety of themes, creating a luminous soundscape.

This is a duo we can’t wait to hear live, as they offer such a delightful program.
