With this third opus and the same trio, Vincent Meissner confirms that he is one of the musicians to watch closely across the Rhine.
Composed mainly from the pianist’s own pen, the repertoire features a variety of themes, ranging from the most melodically simple to more complex pieces, all of which remain highly readable. The pianist’s subtle, nervous touch has a lot to do with the charm of these compositions, which often sound like songs, so obvious is the desire to make the instrument sing.
At times lively, at others dreamy, the pieces gradually sketch out a shimmering soundscape whose evolutions are a pleasure to follow.
Meissner‘s two partners, to whom he has been faithful since the beginning, are no small part in the success of this new recording.
Josef Seimetz is a solid bassist who provides the leader with impeccable support.
As for Henri Reichmann, his drums provide subtle, driving rhythms.
This is a young trio that deserves to be followed, so convincing is its sincerity.
