Thelonious Monk was born in October 1917, the year of his country’s entry into war. He would have turned 100 this year.
He is the model for many musicians and pianists in particular, who regularly pay tribute to him.
Stéphane Tsapis, who also knows how to draw, was fascinated when: “It all started 28 years ago when my mother gave me a tape of Monk’s solo recordings for Columbia. For quite a long time, I thought that his way of playing was quite usual … ”
Stéphane wanted to pay him tribute at the Sunside with his trio : Marc Buronfosse, double bass and Clément Cliquet, drums. (you certainly remember “Border Line” Hit Couleurs Jazz)
NB: Stéphane Tsapis devoted a a radio program in 2012, Le Matin des Musiciens on France Musique with Arnaud Merlin : Monk, Monkiens, Monkisme.
It is at the Sunside at 09:00PM and it should last… Around Midnight 😉
