Bien qu\u2019avec des pupitres r\u00e9duits en nombre par rapport \u00e0 l\u2019acad\u00e9misme des grandes formations, cet ensemble s\u2019octroie la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019invit\u00e9s de marque qui viennent encore augmenter la force du vent.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019au gr\u00e9 des plages on note la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019<strong>Ingrid Jensen, Eric Marienthal, Bob Mintzer<\/strong> et<strong> Tim Ries<\/strong>. La palette des invit\u00e9s est donc prestigieuse, et le tour de force est r\u00e9alis\u00e9 quand on sait que la grande particularit\u00e9 de cet enregistrement est qu\u2019il a \u00e9t\u00e9 produit malgr\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9parpillement g\u00e9ographique des musiciens. C\u2019est ainsi que chaque partie a \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9e individuellement puis transmise par voie \u00e9lectronique. Il faut noter en outre la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019un hautbois et d\u2019un basson, chose rare dans le jazz et qui m\u00e9rite d\u2019\u00eatre soulign\u00e9e.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Compositeur, arrangeur, guitariste et professeur, <strong>Mike Dana<\/strong> pr\u00e9sente sa vision de la composition et de l\u2019instrumentation \u00e0 travers des compositions originales et la reprise de deux standards (<em>The More I See You<\/em> et <em>You Don\u2019t Know What Live Is<\/em>). Difficile d\u2019imaginer en \u00e9coutant l\u2019harmonisation de l\u2019ensemble qu\u2019ils n\u2019ont en fait jamais jou\u00e9s en pr\u00e9sentiel. Et pourtant\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Il se d\u00e9gage une tr\u00e8s juste r\u00e9partition des cuivres et des bois, avec une mise en valeur tr\u00e8s expressive des chorus port\u00e9s par l\u2019ensemble et une section rythmique augment\u00e9e d\u2019un percussionniste qui vitalise encore le tempo. L\u2019\u00e9criture est \u00e0 ce point cisel\u00e9e qu\u2019on pourrait craindre une trop juste expression gommant toutes improvisations sur la trame, or il n\u2019en est rien, voir les soliloques d\u2019un <strong>Bob Mintzer<\/strong> sur <em>It\u2019s Just a <\/em>Phase et les lignes audacieuses d\u2019<strong>Ingrid Jensen<\/strong> sur<em> December.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">L\u2019adjonction des bois rarement entendus dans ce type de formation donne une coloration parfois symphonique au d\u00e9tour de quelques phrases sans d\u00e9naturer pour autant une \u00e9criture moderne au service d\u2019un jazz contemporain ancr\u00e9 dans des sonorit\u00e9s toutefois classiques.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Il faut rajouter une pr\u00e9sence bien remarquable des parties de trombone basse et la mise en valeur particuli\u00e8re de la guitare du leader au sein d\u2019un collectif tr\u00e8s cuivr\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Enfin, une mention sp\u00e9ciale pour le pianiste <strong>George Stone<\/strong> dont l\u2019assise m\u00e9lodique puissante permet un maillage parfait entre sections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Un big band particuli\u00e8rement expressif et enjou\u00e9 au service de pi\u00e8ces magistralement \u00e9crites, formes modernes d\u2019un jazz en \u00e9volution cr\u00e9ative, et des interventions solistes qui feraient presque penser \u00e0 une accumulation de combos.
