Il y a quelques ann\u00e9es, elle fut finaliste avec Samara Joy, de la <em>Sarah Vaughan<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0International\u00a0<\/span>Jazz<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0Vocal\u00a0<\/span>Competition<\/em>. Il est \u00e9tonnant qu&rsquo;elle soit encore si peu reconnue en France, tant par les acad\u00e9mies de jazz que par les institutions officielles et les m\u00e9dias, \u00e0 l&rsquo;exception de Couleurs Jazz\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Le titre \u00e9ponyme \u00ab <i>Mother<\/i>\u00a0\u00bb est \u00e0 la fois un hommage et une lamentation, o\u00f9 la voix de <i>Viktorija<\/i> dessine chaque mot avec la pr\u00e9cision d&rsquo;un calligraphe : brute, expressive et profond\u00e9ment humaine. Elle fait \u00e9cho \u00e0 la tristesse et \u00e0 la solitude d&rsquo;une m\u00e8re s\u00e9par\u00e9e de ses fils exil\u00e9s par la guerre (o\u00f9 l\u2019on rejoint la si douloureuse actualit\u00e9). Compos\u00e9e et arrang\u00e9e par <b>Gene Perla<\/b>, bassiste et collaborateur de longue date de <b>Viktorija. <\/b>Ce nouvel opus s&rsquo;inscrit dans la continuit\u00e9 de leur longue collaboration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>\u00ab <strong>Gene<\/strong> va avoir plus de 80 ans au moment de l&rsquo;impression de ce disque, et il est toujours aussi dynamique et plein de vie. Je l&rsquo;appelle \u00ab\u00a0Jeune Homme\u00a0\u00bb \u2013 par admiration, et non avec ironie. L&rsquo;\u00e9nergie et la joie de vivre qu&rsquo;il d\u00e9gage sont uniques. Il est vif dans la cr\u00e9ation, puissant avec son instrument, toujours pr\u00eat \u00e0 apprendre, parfois excentrique et t\u00eatu, mais surtout dr\u00f4le et sage. On parle beaucoup, on se dispute un peu, on discute de nos vies bien remplies\u2026 Et puis, quand la musique commence, c&rsquo;est comme une pluie d&rsquo;\u00e9t\u00e9 : \u00e9tonnamment simple, rafra\u00eechissante et douce. Dans chacune de ses lignes de basse, dans chacun de ses arrangements, il y a une m\u00e9lodie, une histoire. Dans chaque rythme, un groove solide, instinctif et brut. Toutes les compositions sont de sa plume et elles brossent un paysage sonore d\u2019une musicalit\u00e9 lumineuse aux accents tant\u00f4t m\u00e9diterran\u00e9ens ou balkaniques. Interpr\u00e9t\u00e9s en duo avec le saxophone soprano de\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">Maxime Berton<\/strong>, en trio avec basse et batterie, en quartet avec sax ou en sextet, ces th\u00e8mes se succ\u00e8dent l\u2019un apr\u00e8s l\u2019autre en une promenade chantante et dansante dont on ne se lasse pas de d\u00e9couvrir les beaut\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-size: 14pt;\">Les deux hommes se connaissent bien et on a pu entre-autres les entendre ensemble au sein de ScoLoHoFo, un groupe \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re o\u00f9 les rejoignaient le saxophoniste Joe Lovano et le batteur Al Foster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-size: 14pt;\">Ici ce sont donc juste leurs dix cordes qui dialoguent et cet \u00e9change au sommet est passionnant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-style: inherit; Ici, la puissance orchestrale du big band s\u2019imbrique avec une \u00e9criture rythmique moderne, nourrie de funk et de fusion, sans jamais perdre en lisibilit\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Les arrangements de <strong>Michael Abene<\/strong> permettent aux compositions de conserver leur \u00e9nergie premi\u00e8re tout en profitant pleinement de la richesse des cuivres.
