{"id":40549,"date":"2024-04-01T08:54:02","date_gmt":"2024-04-01T07:54:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/couleursjazz.fr\/?p=40549"},"modified":"2024-04-01T09:00:06","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T08:00:06","slug":"james-brandon-lewis-transfiguration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/couleursjazz.fr\/fr\/james-brandon-lewis-transfiguration\/","title":{"rendered":"James Brandon Lewis &#8211; Transfiguration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Timbre d\u2019une densit\u00e9 remarquable, sonorit\u00e9 \u00e9paisse, d\u00e9bit volontiers torrentiel\u00a0: James Brandon Lewis dans ce quatri\u00e8me opus en quartet sur le label suisse Intakt continue \u00e0 s\u2019affirmer comme l\u2019un des principaux h\u00e9ritiers de Sonny Rollins pour l\u2019approche du t\u00e9nor et de John Coltrane pour le jeu avec un groupe qui a conserv\u00e9 le m\u00eame personnel depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Le saxophoniste fra\u00eechement quadrag\u00e9naire propose ici un r\u00e9pertoire enti\u00e8rement de sa plume o\u00f9 dominent les morceaux up tempo ou en tempo moyen o\u00f9 sa ma\u00eetrise de la tessiture du t\u00e9nor est bluffante, sans oublier des th\u00e8mes plus apais\u00e9s o\u00f9 son lyrisme fait merveille. \u00ab\u00a0Elan vital\u00a0\u00bb, le titre en fran\u00e7ais du dernier morceau pourrait d\u2019ailleurs qualifier l\u2019ensemble du disque.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Le jeu de piano du Cubain <strong>Aruan Ortiz<\/strong> est pour beaucoup dans la sonorit\u00e9 globale du groupe et le fait qu\u2019il fonctionne par ailleurs en tant que trio avec la m\u00eame paire rythmique compos\u00e9e des excellents <strong>Brad Jones<\/strong> et <strong>Chad Taylor<\/strong> ne contribue pas peu \u00e0 la coh\u00e9rence de l\u2019accompagnement du saxophoniste.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">L\u2019une des caract\u00e9ristiques principales du quartet est son impressionnante assise rythmique. D\u2019ailleurs <strong>Lewis <\/strong>a enregistr\u00e9 voici quelques ann\u00e9es en duo avec le batteur <strong>Chad Taylor<\/strong>, ce qui le situe clairement dans le droit fil des duos de Rollins avec Philly Joe Jones ou de Coltrane avec Rashied Ali.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Comme la plupart de ses compatriotes cubains, <strong>Ortiz<\/strong> poss\u00e8de un jeu de piano brillant tant sur le plan harmonique que rythmique. Son entente avec son leader est palpable et ses interventions en solo sont toujours int\u00e9ressantes.
