Voici donc une 1\u00e8re chronique<i>\u00a0CDJazz,<\/i>\u00a0sur le projet de R\u00e9mi Bolduc, musicien dont l&rsquo;un des derniers albums faisait partie d\u00e9j\u00e0, de la \u00ab\u00a0S\u00e9lection\u00a0Couleurs Jazz\u00a0\u00bb . cf. Couleurs Jazz #6. L&rsquo;album est produit par l&rsquo;auteur : Les Productions Art and Soul<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/couleursjazz.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Brubeck-pochette-cd-baby_r\u00e9mi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  wp-image-2054 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/couleursjazz.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Brubeck-pochette-cd-baby_r\u00e9mi-300x273.jpg\" alt=\"Brubeck pochette cd baby_r\u00e9mi\" width=\"443\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>9 avril 2015<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Je n\u2019ai jamais aim\u00e9 Dave Brubeck, trop poli, trop \u00ab mainstream \u00bb, mais je savais fort bien qu\u2019il \u00e9tait un formidable ambassadeur du jazz. Ce respect, je le devais aussi \u00e0 son alter ego, l\u2019altiste Paul Desmond, homme des phrases simples et\u2026inimitables, tout comme le batteur, Joe Morello et le contrebassiste Eugene Wright. Cette \u00ab phalange \u00bb d\u2019exception aura port\u00e9 vers la note bleue, un nombre incalculable de spectateurs pour cette derni\u00e8re, n\u2019\u00e9tait visiblement pas leur tasse de th\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Cette longue introduction nous conduit vers <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sortiesjazznights.com\/www.remibolduc.com\" target=\"_blank\">R\u00e9mi Bolduc<\/a><\/strong>, \u00e9minent saxophoniste alto montr\u00e9alais, compositeur et professeur d\u2019universit\u00e9 qui en compagnie de quelques complices, se sont mis dans l\u2019id\u00e9e de rendre hommage au fondateur de <em>Time Out<\/em>. Un coup de chapeau ne veut pas dire une relecture, bien qu\u2019il faille respecter certains codes. En premier lieu, l\u2019interpr\u00e8te doit assoir le th\u00e8me, le rythme, une partie de \u00ab la s\u00e8ve \u00bb, pour que tout un chacun se reconnaisse. Comme il est aussi question d\u2019arrangements, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sortiesjazznights.com\/www.remibolduc.com\" target=\"_blank\">R\u00e9mi Bolduc<\/a><\/strong> a choisi d\u2019y \u00ab injecter \u00bb un peu de sa science. Avec son crayon, il a revu l\u00e9g\u00e8rement : <em>Rondo A la Turk, Far More Blues, Charles Matthew Halleeluja <\/em>(deux titres peu connus), <em>Everybody\u2019s Jumpin<\/em> &#8211; cheval de bataille du grand saxophoniste Johnny Hodges et<em>Three To Get Ready<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Entour\u00e9 du pianiste <strong>Fran\u00e7ois Bourassa<\/strong>, tr\u00e8s swing en l\u2019occurrence, du contrebassiste chantant <strong>Fraser Hollins<\/strong> et du batteur<strong>Dave Laing<\/strong>, h\u00e9las beaucoup moins \u00e0 l\u2019aise dans ce registre, la machine Brubeck est sur les rails. Beaucoup moins diaphane que Paul Desmond et plus pr\u00e8s de Julian Cannonball Adderley (son rond et charnu avec un tranchant qui \u00e9voque aussi le saxophoniste baryton Pepper Adams), <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sortiesjazznights.com\/www.remibolduc.com\" target=\"_blank\">R\u00e9mi Bolduc<\/a><\/strong> virevolte. Ajoutant plusieurs chorus, tout en rudoyant un peu les \u00ab espaces temps \u00bb, il exprime une agilit\u00e9 parfois \u00e9tonnante avec un sens du \u00ab personnel \u00bb qui est loin d\u2019\u00eatre n\u00e9gligeable. R\u00e9mi Bolduc, one of the musician whose latest album already was part of the \u00ab\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><strong>Selection Couleurs Jazz<\/strong><em><strong>\u00a0\u00bb in our issue #6. The album is produced by Productions Art and Soul<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><b>April 9, 2015<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I never really liked Dave Brubeck, too polite, too mainstream, but I always knew that&rsquo;s he was one of the great ambassadors of jazz. Respect is equally due to his alter ego, altist Paul Desmand, a man of simple yet inimitable phrases, as well as drummer Joe Morella and bassist Eugene Wright. These great musicians and their new music attracted many new fans to jazz.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This long introduction leads us to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sortiesjazznights.com\/www.remibolduc.com\" target=\"_blank\">R\u00e9mi Bolduc<\/a><\/strong>, eminent montreal alto saxophonist, composer and university professor, who, with the help of a few accomplices set out to render a<\/em> \u00ab\u00a0hommage\u00a0\u00bb<em> to the founder of<\/em> Time Out. <em>A tribute such as this does not imply just replaying the music, althought you have to respect a few guidelines. First of all, the player has to get the theme just right, as well as it&rsquo;s unique rhythm, and convey the sense of it all. Because arrangements are important here, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sortiesjazznights.com\/www.remibolduc.com\" target=\"_blank\">R\u00e9mi Bolduc<\/a><\/strong> chose to inject some of his science, with <\/em><br \/>\n<em>his pencil, slightly arranging<\/em> : Rondo A la Turk, Far More Blues, Charles Matthew Halleeluja (two obscure titles),\u00a0 Everybody\u2019s Jumpin &#8211; <em>a Johnny Hodges trademark tune and<\/em> Three To Get Ready.<\/p>\n<p><em>Supported by pianist <strong>Fran\u00e7ois Bourassa<\/strong>, who&rsquo;s got that swing, <strong>Fraser Hollins<\/strong>, the man with the singing bass, and drummer<strong>Dave Laing<\/strong>, the Brubeck machine is on track. Less opalescent that Paul Desmond and closer to Julian Cannonball Adderley (a round, edgy and tick sound that also recalls baritone saxman Pepper Adams), <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sortiesjazznights.com\/www.remibolduc.com\" target=\"_blank\">R\u00e9mi Bolduc<\/a><\/strong> whirlwinds. Adding many choruses, pushing the rhythmics, he expresses with stunning agility his own take on the master&rsquo;s music.
