A\u00a0top-notch\u00a0trio\u00a0was summoned\u00a0to accompany the\u00a0different voices. Judge for\u00a0yourself:\u00a0Bojan\u00a0Z\u00a0on piano,Christophe\u00a0Minck\u00a0on bass and\u00a0Cyril Atef\u00a0on drums,\u00a0joined on\u00a0some tracks\u00a0by a\u00a0string orchestra\u00a0and a few special guests on horns and guitars.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>High standards for the choice of singers, too, and some whose talent really stands out: From a subtle\u00a0Ben\u00a0l&rsquo;Oncle Soul\u00a0to\u00a0Lianne La Havas,\u00a0in a splendid\u00a0version of Randy Newman\u2019s\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Baltimore\u00a0\u00bb, as well as Gregory\u00a0Porter\u00a0at his usual best and\u00a0Hindi Zahra very moving and\u00a0MelodyGardot\u00a0heartbreaking\u00a0in \u00ab\u00a0Four women\u00a0\u00bb,\u00a0composed and sung\u00a0by Simone\u00a0in 1966.\u00a0A risky gamble that pays off,\u00a0\u00a0this album\u00a0in which the participants\u00a0modestly and\u00a0respectfully lay claim to\u00a0these\u00a0songs in which\u00a0Simone\u00a0expressed\u00a0so many wounds.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Autour de Nina\u00a0\u00bb (Verve\/Universal)<\/p>\n<p>Autour de Nina est un album hommage rendu \u00e0 Nina Simone disparue il y a douze ans.<\/p>\n<p>Dix artistes issus du milieu de la Pop, du Jazz ou de la Soul ont \u00e9t\u00e9 choisis pour revisiter quelques titres embl\u00e9matiques que la chanteuse\/pianiste, originaire de Caroline du Nord, avait interpr\u00e9t\u00e9s entre 1957 et 1978. Un trio de haute vol\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 convoqu\u00e9 pour accompagner les diff\u00e9rentes voix, jugez plut\u00f4t\u00a0: Bojan Z au piano, Christophe Minck \u00e0 la contrebasse et Cyril Atef \u00e0 la batterie, rejoints sur quelques titres par un orchestre \u00e0 cordes et quelques invit\u00e9s soufflants ou guitaristes.<\/p>\n<p>Haute tenue \u00e9galement pour les chanteurs (ses) m\u00eame si certains tirent leur \u00e9pingle du jeu avec plus de talent : de Ben l\u2019Oncle Soul tout en retenue \u00e0 Lianne La Havas, dans une tr\u00e8s belle version du \u00ab\u00a0Baltimore\u00a0\u00bb de Randy Newman, en passant par Gr\u00e9gory Porter \u00e9gal \u00e0 lui-m\u00eame, Hindi Zahra tr\u00e8s \u00e9mouvante et M\u00e9lody Gardot d\u00e9chirante dans ce \u00ab\u00a0Four women\u00a0\u00bb que Nina Simone avait compos\u00e9 et chant\u00e9 en 1966.
