For\u00a0Three\u00a0Times Three, the\u00a0American drummer\u00a0has surrounded himself with bassists\u00a0Christian McBride, John\u00a0Patitucci\u00a0and Matt\u00a0Brewer, guitarist\u00a0John\u00a0Scofield,\u00a0saxophonist\u00a0Joe Lovano\u00a0and\u00a0undisputed\u00a0genius\u00a0Brad\u00a0Mehldau.\u00a0In fact, what you remember of the album\u2019s\u00a085 minutes\u00a0are the first three\u00a0tracks on which\u00a0he\u00a0improvises.\u00a0As usual, the star pianistdazzles with\u00a0his\u00a0melodic\u00a0intelligence,\u00a0his explosiveness\u00a0and\u00a0his\u00a0unique\u00a0phrasing,\u00a0instantly recognizable:\u00a0his personality\u00a0is so strong he\u00a0quickly\u00a0steals the show\u00a0from\u00a0the alleged\u00a0leader.\u00a0Certainly,\u00a0Sanchez\u00a0is inventive and accompanies\u00a0with gusto,\u00a0with a masterfulenergy,\u00a0but the music\u00a0we\u00a0discover\u00a0here\u00a0is above all Mehldau\u2019s, once again showing him to be the most significant figure\u00a0in contemporary jazz.<\/em><\/p>\n

Pour Three Times Three<\/i>, le batteur am\u00e9ricain s\u2019entoure des contrebassistes Christian McBride, John Patitucci et Matt Brewer, du guitariste John Scofield, du saxophoniste Joe Lovano, et du g\u00e9nie incontest\u00e9 Brad Mehldau. D\u2019ailleurs, tout ce qu\u2019on retient de ces 85 minutes d\u2019enregistrement sont les trois premiers titres sur lesquels celui-ci improvise. Comme \u00e0 son habitude, le pianiste-star brille par son intelligence m\u00e9lodique, par sa fulgurance et par son phras\u00e9 unique, instantan\u00e9ment reconnaissable : sa personnalit\u00e9 est si forte qu\u2019il vole rapidement la vedette au leader suppos\u00e9. Certes, Sanchez compose et accompagne avec brio, avec une \u00e9nergie magistrale, mais la musique qu\u2019on d\u00e9couvre ici reste avant tout celle de Mehldau qui, encore une fois, s\u2019\u00e9rige comme la figure la plus incontournable du jazz contemporain.<\/p>\n
